GET THE FACTS! GUARD YOUR FAMILY'S HEALTH
Arsenic. Mercury. Pesticides. Dioxin. Toxic gases. Your typical hazardous waste dump, right? Wrong. We're talking about your home. Every day, we work, live, and play amid potentially harmful toxins - things we might not even know are there. We're exposed to these toxic substances in our homes, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, foods, and consumer products such as:
* The grayish white insulation around your basement
* The high-voltage power lines by your mother's house
* The funny smell in the hallway of your son's school
* The paints and glues you use for home repairs
* The pesticides leaching out of your backyard deck
Now, two toxics experts with decades of experience in public health bring you a book that separates the risks from the myths of everyday toxins. Comprehensive and easy to use, their guide provides scenarios and real-life examples -including warning signs - that show you how to identify problems and what to do about them.
What the experts are saying...
"Aside from its wealth of factual details and scientific findings, this book helps highlight the broader need for awareness and action against toxic substances threatening our families. In a world where such poisons are increasingly prevalent, it is akin to a survivor's manual. It should assist public policy makers and parents alike."
Richard Blumenthal
Attorney General
State of Connecticut
"A lucid and honest volume that offers parents practical, balanced advice on how to protect their children against environmental hazards."
Phillip Landrigan, M.D., M.Sc., F.A.A.P,
Professor and Chairman of Pediatrics,
Mount Sinai School of Medicine
"An excellent and very readable book on the toxics in our environment. This book should find a place in every home. When it doesn't answer all of the questions, it provides reference to sources that will. It is a wonderful resource that physicians and environmental health personnel can provide to patients and the public for easily understood information on exposures of concern to the community."
